This morning I went with Zorya to the US Embassy. It is in the business center of Almaty so it was neat to see that part of the city. Almaty is so much bigger than Bishkek! Zorya likes to point out the different things in Almaty that the Kazakh people take pride in and also tell us about Kazakh history, so that has been interesting to hear as we drive along. At the US Embassy I dropped off all of Caleb’s paperwork. It included his original and new birth certificates, Kyrgyz passport, adoption decree and other adoption documents. The Embassy indicated the documents looked good, so they will process them today. Tomorrow we will all go back at 3pm for our interview where they can ask us questions about our documents and ability to provide for Caleb. Hopefully there will not be too many questions! If all goes well, Caleb’s visa should be ready on Thursday.
We planned to go to dinner at a restaurant that Zorya recommended but Caleb is running a fever which we suspect is related to either teething or his tummy troubles. Luckily we have antibiotics for him so we’re going to go ahead and start those to see if it helps.
It’s about 7pm now in Almaty and Caleb has had a big bottle and some medicine and is now sleeping. Hopefully the night will go well and he’ll start to feel better.
We will probably only get the chance to post one or two more times before we leave to COME HOME! We are thrilled to come home but dreading the long flight. I keep telling myself it is a necessary part of the process – something we only have to do once – and praying that God will help Caleb to feel okay on the plane and only show his lung strength a few times!
Here are some pictures from the day...
Caleb hanging out with Daddy... it's tough being a baby!

Precious! I am glad he is eating better and everything. It is only a few days until you get to come home with him!!! How exciting. I can't wait to see him (and yall) come through the gates at the airport. Praying for you! Love!
Sorry the internet sucks...we had problems with it too, though it sounds like it's worse now. It's so frustrating when it's your only lifeline!
So glad he is feeling better! The "interview" is a piece of cake and I laugh at it even being called an interview. I know you are so ready to leave...try to take as many pics as you can. Even though it's not his birthplace, you'll want them later!
I'm so happy to hear that Caleb is showing improvement with the soy formula. We continue to enjoy the fashion show of cute baby boy clothes, hats and slippers as well as every single bit of information you write about this journey to bring home your baby boy. Hang in there! It won't be long until you are here! Love, Mom PS Does Bryan's shirt say "Peak Performance"? Is it written backwards? :)... Just wondering. Also, our pediatrician used to call that the "football hold."
I am so glad you have had some success in the tummy dept. I know you'll get it all settled in time.
I love the photo of Bryan holding Caleb in the "airplane" position. My son, Jacob, LOVED that at that age. He out grew my forearm pretty quick but Jeff would carry him around like that all the time.
You just remember on that (those) plane flights home; these are the last 7,313 miles to complete this adoption journey. You can endure anything to get through them and you will survive it! Besides, Caleb might surprise you and sleep the whole way! : )
XOXO

Like everyone else, I was happy to read that Caleb seems to have a better appetite! And I love all of his clothes - he looks adorable. You are in the homestretch now - you guys will be in my thoughts that these last few things are a breeze and you'll be back on American soil in no time at all!
so glad to get an update on Caleb and his tummy, perhaps he'll be in tip top shape for the plane ride home. we are praying for you and Caleb has a little present waiting in your mailbox :)

BB&C,
Thank you for the update. We're glad to hear Caleb's tummy is settling down and hope his fever goes away soon also. Just a few more days til you are all home! God bless the three of you.
(Exclusive to Caleb: --- Try to give your mom and dad a break and keep the lung exercising on the plane to a minimum. You'll have plenty of chances in the future to get back at 'em and then you can use some leverage by saying, "But Mom (or Dad), don't you remember how good I was for those 7,313 miles from Almaty to Houston?")
Love,
Dwight & Sue
Glad Caleb likes soy milk. I'm sure he will catch up soon...babies are so resilient. Just a tip about the internet service. When we were in Kyrgyzstan, we had limited internet as well, so we wrote our emails and blogs on Word document, and then copy and paste it online and post it. I think we consumed less megabytes that way too. We continue to pray that the US Embassy will issue her visa tomorrow.
He is SOO cute. I just adore all the photos. I can't wait to meet him and have you all back in Texas! love, katy
So glad to see Caleb's tummy problems are better. We figured soy formula might be best for little man when we go back also. Also very excited that you are close to getting home. The flight home will be okay especially if he decides to sleep the whole way. Also thanks for your kind words regarding the loss of my cousin.
Oh Betsy!! Isn't this some hard stuff? We are struggling still over in Kryg and it seems like you guys are having some issues on the other side of the border. I will pray for you as I pray for Ellie and myself. Seeing as how the internet and Skype are my lifeline, I'm certain to be lost next week.
Bryan looks like an old pro already with that football hold! I'm glad Caleb is doing well on the Soy and that he's starting to eat more. Isn't it great watching your baby scarf something down? I'll be praying for your flight; that's so very intimidating. I'll pray for Caleb, but also for the people who will be a captive audience in the seats around you.;) You'll be a champ!! Game face!!
Yippee for the soy bean! Glad to hear that it is making a difference.
