Caleb - 20 Months

Today Caleb is 20 months old! He is turning into such a big boy and we are amazed at the new things he is learning and doing each day. I want to be able to remember all of his current milestones and accomplishments, and the easiest way for me to capture all of that is with a list!
  • Although we haven't recently been to the pediatrician, Caleb is approximately 26 lbs and 34 inches tall. He is wearing mostly 18 month clothes but starting to work his way into 24 month clothing because of his height, although they tend to be loose in the waist. He wears a size 6.5 shoe right now!
  • Caleb will eat (or at least try!) just about anything we set in front of him. The only food he has truly disliked so far has been peanut butter and I think it was mainly due to the texture. I am so fortunate that he is a good eater - he even ate Chicken Tetrazzini leftovers the other night! He doesn't really care for juice so he drinks milk or water.
  • Caleb drinks really well from a sippy cup and is making progress with a spoon. He still enjoys a warm bottle of milk and I'm working on a strategy to put an end to that soon!
  • I believe he has 18 teeth including two molars. There could be more in there but I'll let Bryan be the brave one to stick his finger in his mouth with all those sharp teeth!
  • Caleb is very affectionate and loves to give kisses to many, many people. He is sweet to his "MomMom" and talks about his "Dada" all day long until Bryan comes home from the hospital.
  • Caleb can make accurate vehicle sounds for car, truck, firetruck/ambulance, helicopter, plane, boat and train. He often hears these sounds while in our house and will stop what he's doing to listen to the sounds he hears!
  • Caleb still loves to watch the trash truck and has memorized the little story I made up about what the trash truck does, including how the arm of it goes 'up up up' and we say 'bye bye' to the trash (We have a trash truck with one of those robot arms that picks up the trash cans). If you ask him what the trash truck does he will respond with "up up up, bye bye!"
  • Caleb can make the sound for a 'monster', dog, horse, cow, duck, sheep, bird, owl, bear, lion, and snake. Most recently he's been working on donkey!
  • Caleb loves Itsy Bitsy spider and will try to do the hand motions for it. He also loves to sing Old McDonald and will try to join in on the animal sounds and say "Yeye Yeye O" for E-i-e-i-o.
  • Caleb can say tons of words now and understand even more! He will try to repeat just about anything we ask him to -- a scary development!!! Ha! Here are all the words I can remember that he is saying: Mama, Dada, Sophie, cat, dog, truck, car, ball, cup, bowl, set (as in ready, set go!), the numbers one, two, six, seven and ten, his own version of Granny/GranJan/Grandpa - all of these sound like "dnnn", Daddy Bob, Jesus, tree, uh oh, bye, hi, circle, cookie, keys, sorry and please. He is saying bye all the time now in the sweetest, softest little voice and it really melts my heart.
  • When you ask Caleb "Do you want....?" he will answer yes by saying "do". Similarly, if you ask him if he wants TO do something he answers yes by saying "to".
  • Caleb LOVES letters. He enjoys Super Why on PBS (a letters/ reading show) and his Leap Frog magnetic alphabet toy. He can consistently identify the letters: B, C, K, M, O, S, and T. It amazes me that he has picked up on these letters!
  • If you ask Caleb to count, he used to just say "six, sheven" repeatedly. He has recently changed his counting pattern to be "two-uh, ten-uh".
  • If you ask Caleb how old he is, his current answer is "ten". It used to be "two". He told the cashier at Lowe's that he was ten just a few days ago.
  • Caleb has enjoyed singing a little name rhyme song that my family sang when we were little. You go through and sing about how each person loves Caleb, such as "Mommy loves, Caleb, Mommy loves Caleb! Mommy, Mommy, Mommy, Mommy, Mommy, Mommy, Mommy, Mommy, Mommy, Mommy, Mommy, Mommy, Mommy, LOVES CALEB!". Caleb has been singing it on his own but his version replaces the "loves Caleb" portion with "hunh". So he'll sing "Mommy hunh, Mommy hunh...." and so on. He will also change the verses to include that the fan, Daddy Bob's car (aka "Bobcar") and car love him as well!
  • Caleb still loves balls and is good at throwing them and also likes to kick a ball as he walks...or should I say runs - around the house. He is a very, very active little boy and we envy his energy!
  • Caleb knows and uses the baby signs for help, wash hands, more and milk on a daily basis.
That is all that I can remember right now about our sweet little boy. Caleb is such a joy and brings so much happiness to our lives!
