Chit Chat

Our little Caleb is quickly changing from baby to toddler with each passing day!  He is doing so many new things that I feel like it is hard to keep track.

Caleb's vocabulary has really been growing at a fast pace.  He will try to repeat almost any word that you ask him to say, although there are certain sounds he isn't making yet.  I was keeping track of the number of words he says but have lost count.

The latest development is that Caleb is now saying two-word sentences.  He started this at about 20.5 months (he'll be 21 months on January 10).  Caleb loves to say bye to specific things (bye house, bye Mama, bye Dada, bye to his grandparents, bye Jesus when we leave a room with a cross in it, bye Santa as I'm putting away Christmas decorations today, bye tee tee/ bye poo poo when I change his diaper).  He also loves to identify who an object belongs to (Mama's cup, Dada's truck, Mama's car, Sophie's bowl).  He actually says "Mama's" as opposed to just saying Mama.  There have also been a few times where he wants something that is his that I have put away and he proclaims "Mine car!!!".  We are working on getting him to say "Cup please" or "Car please" when he wants something.  I have gotten him to say "Help please" which sounds like "belp peas".

Caleb has also identified a bathroom toy from Gran Jan and Pop Pop as "Santa Duck" since the duck is wearing a Santa suit!  Caleb likes to announce things using the sentence "Car! There's a car!" or "Truck! There's a truck!" or any other variation.  I've also heard him say "It's a ___" to proclaim what something is.

The best example of Caleb's two-word sentences came when we were at the mall Christmas shopping.  I needed to use the restroom and brought him into the stall with me, still strapped in his stroller.  He repeated very loudly "Mama tee tee" during the entire process.  Lovely.  I have always laughed at other people whose kids announce their bathroom activity... I guess now it's my turn!

Also, I have always asked Caleb "are you a baby or a big boy?" and he would always say "baby".  Recently his answer has changed to "big boy" which he says "bee boy".  My little boy is growing up!

Some of Caleb's more recent words are light, off, socks, shoes, pizza, Santa, and banana.

We are so proud of all the things he is learning and saying! He is growing up way too fast if you ask me!
