The Baby Furniture ER

Last weekend we went to Austin to go to dinner and do some shopping.  It was a nice break to get out of T-town for a bit, and we decided to stop at the baby furniture store where we ordered Caleb's furniture.  I hadn't been in there for at least 2 years so I wanted to see what they had to offer.

Right now our current plan is to not fully decorate a nursery until we have baby #2 home with us - meaning legally things are basically finalized.  I'd hate to decorate a very girly nursery or a cute boy room and then have things fall through.  I've been doing extensive online browsing and am ready to pull the trigger quickly and know what I like!

We have decided to not get 'long-term' furniture for this baby like we did for Caleb (he has the convertible crib & changing table that converts to his big boy dresser).  We are hoping to be much more budget conscious but still have a special room for our next baby.  I wasn't expecting to see much that would work for us when we went to the nice baby furniture store in Austin, but we went into their clearance room and found a 5-drawer Pali chest of drawers - original price $900 - on sale for $50!!  We were shocked!  The front left corner was slightly damaged during shipping so they were selling it at a ridiculous discount.  We were there right at closing but called back the next day to buy it over the phone.   Yesterday we made the trek to Austin in Bryan's truck so we could pick it up.  We figured even if we ruined it while trying to fix it we'd only be out $50.

Today Bryan got some type of epoxy wood glue and used my Paw Paw's old C-clamps to glue the corner of the dresser back together.  The majority of the furniture is solid wood but the top is MDF, which seems to be the case with lots of furniture these days even if it's not cheap.  He decided to let the glue sit for 24 hours but we are both really excited with how it's looking!  The plan is to leave it cherry (and apply stain to hide imperfections) if we adopt a baby boy, or to paint it antique white to match a girly crib if we adopt a baby girl.

We still can't get over what a great deal we got on such a nice, sturdy piece of furniture.  We're pretty sure God put us in the right place at the right time to buy it for baby #2!

I LOVE that the repair of this chest of drawers involves the use of alcohol swabs (per the glue instructions) and a glue container that resembles a syringe.  It's like our garage has turned into the Baby Furniture ER and Bryan is totally in his element!!! :)

Round 1 of gluing complete... letting it sit 24 hours even though we're dying to remove the clamps and see how it looks!

Nice work, Dr. Pickett! We had a chair repaired this way and it's as good as new. We can't even tell which chair had the damage.

Holy cow! I can NOT believe you got that for $50! It was definitely meant for you though ;)
