Today was Caleb's first day of Mother's Day Out at First United Methodist in Temple!
I have spent the past week talking to him about school a lot - what he will do there, about making friends & sharing, how Mommy comes back, etc. We have read Llama Llama Misses Mama more than usual and also started reading a new book, The Kissing Hand, about going to school. Caleb has especially liked The Kissing Hand because it talks about a raccoon that doesn't want to go to school, but his mother kisses his hand and tells him to put his palm to his face when he misses her. Last night at bedtime Caleb and I talked a lot about tomorrow being the first day of school. For the first time he seemed excited!
This morning he ate a big breakfast and got ready for school. Bryan stayed awake to see Caleb off to school even though he had worked the night shift. He helped me to get some great pictures of Caleb in our front yard before we left.
I was anxious about how Caleb would do when I dropped him off since he cried at the orientation the second we entered the building. To my surprise, he did fantastic! Not a tear was shed. He walked straight into his classroom and even said hello to his teacher and remembered her name. He waved bye to me and went straight to the trucks. I managed to waste the 3 hours by wandering aimlessly in several stores.
When I went to get Caleb he was playing happily and eating his lunch. He was so happy to see me and exclaimed "Mommy's back!" just like in the Llama book. The teacher said he did great and only got a little bit worried when his diaper was changed (he later told me, "Miss Kim change the diaper, me scared". I think he is anxious about being up on their changing station but should get used to it with time.
He also told me that when they went outside "me hold da rope". I'm guessing they hold onto a little rope to go outside to the playground. Caleb also reported that he had fun, played with cars and trucks, painted a picture with his finger, talked about a 'scare' (aka square) and that one kid dumped a bunch of toys (tattle tale!). All in all I'd say it was a fantastic first day of school! I'm so proud of my big boy and how brave he was, and excited to see how much he enjoys going to school this year!

I love that smiling, mischievous look on Caleb's face. I'm glad that he had a good first day of school.
I'm so happy for both Caleb and Mommy that everything about his first day at Mother'sDay Out went well. The pictures are all precious! Caleb, Granny and BobBob are so excited for you to go to school and make new friends! We love you and we are so proud of you!
Let Caleb know that Aunt Michelle is really excited to talk about school with him.
Miss you all and can't wait to see you this weekend.
BTW, Adorable pictures as always!
What a great talker, he told you so much of what he did. . . I would have wandered aimlessly too, give yourself a few weeks and you will be so productive I know.
I'm so glad he had such a good time. Ellie LOVE LOVE LOVES her school and gets very upset if she thinks you are not taking her. I can't imagine what will happen this summer when there is only a 2 day mothers day out. :-) He will learn so much -- Ellie is learning colors, letter and numbers. She talks all the time and sings songs. Aren't they fun at this age???
