Thank you everyone for your comments, prayers and support. We truly appreciate them and believe that you are all helping us to bear this burden.
I wanted to let everyone know that we have been utilizing the help of a great set of IA Doctors who have been reviewing Caleb's medical information since the first day we found out about him. Unfortunately their current opinion is that he likely has some pretty significant neurological problems. Bryan and I will certainly await the results of the brain ultrasound today, but we have been told that even if it looks normal there is still a high likelihood that Caleb has some long term medical issues that are fairly severe.
We feel prepared to face a difficult decision today and have the complete support of our agency. We are also blessed to have wonderfully supportive families and friends. Please continue to pray for us as today will likely be a very trying day for both of us.

I am so glad to hear that you have an IA doctor. They were invaluable to us -- after the fact because we (ignorantly) thought we wouldn't need them. You all are in my prayers. I think back to what helped me get through a similar situation and I can only say that God gave me a definite peace about the decisions we had to make. It hurt, yes. I want to have words to help you through this, but my words are void. I hope you can find comfort in God's words. You are a woman who is strong in her faith. You WILL make the right decision and you will be ok. If you need me, I am here.
Psalm 27:14
Wait for the LORD; be courageous and let your heart be strong. Wait for the LORD.
Ephesians 6:10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.
I have been checking your blog over and over for the past few days - even when nothing new has been posted just to re-read what you said about Caleb and gaze at those pictures. My heart aches for you guys but at the same time is hopeful that all will be as it should. As I read the posts from all of the others who have been in your shoes before, I am so happy that you have found them (what on earth would we do without the internet?!?!) so that they too can share their experience and advice with you. Ultimately it will be the hardest decision and I'm sure one that will not come lightly, but know that you have unending love and support from SO many people who care deeply about you.
Betsy, Bryan, I hope things are steadily improving. I'm sure as time goes on you will be faced with more challenges you do not expect. Continue to be strong, I will pray that Caleb continues to come around. With your love I don't doubt it.
Love, Daniel
Hi Betsy and Bryan, I just wanted to let you know that I am praying for you and Caleb. Everything you have sent has been so touching. He is like a little angel. Thank you so much for sharing. Love, Grace
We are thinking about and praying for all of you!
Dave & Amy
The 3 of you are in my thoughts and prayers. I truly hope that you get better news after the dr visit.
Know that we are just covering you in prayer, and I am not just saing that I mean that we are. We love you very much.
Caleb will always be loved and prayed over because of where you are right now. Listen to God and know He will guide you. The decision will be hard (regardless a of what it is) but He will guide you. It will be ok.
As I get ready to go to bed tonight, I know the two of you are facing such a difficult day. Know that He is with you. And know that you are going to be supported regardless of the outcome of your decisions. I wish now that we had traveled with you this week.
Sending prayers and love your way,
Lisa
Betsy and Bryan,
We are here if you need to talk or anything. Betsy I know you are physically ill and I hope you get better. You guys are in our prayers as is Caleb.
Betsy and Bryan, You are heavy on my heart today. I pray you would feel God's presence today and find rest in Him. Love you.
"May my cry come before you, O Lord; give me understanding according to your word. May my supplication come before you; deliver me according to your PROMISE." Ps. 119:169-170
You are in my thoughts and my prayers. I'm glad that you have good doctors helping you make this difficult decision. This baby boy is God's child and He loves him. I know that you love him too regardless of what you decide. We will all continue to pray for the two of you as well as this little one's health and future. God is faithful! He is in control and He has a plan for your life as well as this baby's. If I can do anything please let me know!
In Him,
Hilary
"Faith is being sure of what you hope for, and certain of what you cannot see." Heb. 11:1
First, though my beliefs may fall in a different region of theology, you have my prayers as well - my faith and belief in the processes, the 'plan' as it were. It's my belief that they all end up in the same place anyway.
I faced quite a trial with my own daughter. If you remember, there were so many complications during the pregnancy that were so severe we didn't even prepare a room for her and then, after her birth, the doctors were unsure she would learn to breathe properly. The human body is an amazing machine, still capable of amazing us even given all we know through science, but still this pales in comparison to the spirit; the soul.
I know that the both of you are in a very difficult place and facing things no parent or potential parent should ever have to, but your faith is strong as is your spirit - I speak of the two of you as one deliberately ;)
Whatever comes, there is something working things out somewhere in the infinite, the between, and it is with you. Whether it be your God, his homeland's Allah or my strange pantheon of forgotten gods, we are all with you at every turn and you always have our support.
"I sought the Lord and He heard me, and He delivered me from all my fears."
- Psalm 34:4
"When my servants ask thee concerning Me I am indeed close; I listen to the prayer of every suppliant when he calleth on Me; let them also with a will listen to My call and believe in Me; that they may walk in the right way."
- Qur'an 2:186 Surah Al-Baqarah
May you trust to hope, to the movement of all within the circle. May hope carry you through trial and test, and bring balance and wisdom. Those who believe, who look to the call are blessed and will hear the wisdom of faith and will find peace
