Caleb's First Rice Cereal

Yesterday Caleb had his first taste of rice cereal. Our pediatrician said he probably wouldn't like it too much but we needed to start introducing the concept of a spoon to him.
We only mixed up about a tablespoon and tried giving it to him in both the Bumbo chair and in Bryan's lap. Overall, I'd say our initial impression was that it was a success! He ate several spoonfuls although he clearly wasn't sure how to swallow the cereal and would just smack it around in his mouth a bit. Caleb eventually got tired of the whole idea so we called it quits.
All was well until I was changing his diaper about an hour later. He had his fingers in his mouth and I just thought he was doing that since he's teething. But oh no, he put his long fingers so far in his mouth that he gagged himself and let's just say all the previously eaten rice cereal was a lost cause, as was the outfit. Better luck next time.
Here are some more pictures below... A Rice Cereal Play-by-Play if you will:

Can't wait to come see him!!!! I love him in the Bumbo chair-he is too cute! I am glad that the rice cereal was a success, but hopefully he will not gag himself next time.

The second picture looks like he's thinking "What in the world are you doing to me?" Sitting in his Bumbo chair he looks so big and grown up. I can't wait to see him tomorrow.

Love, GranJan

Too funny! Nice try though! Ella *hated* any form of cereal and we had to call it quits until we started in with the banana a month later. Keep up the good work. You look like a natural! :-)

i think i still have two, barely touched boxes! Scarlett hated it, regardless of what i did. the baby oatmeal worked a little better, but i was sure happy when she moved onto cheerios!

Love the play-by-play Betsy ; ) Too cute! Leila has tried the rice cereal 4 times now and still doesn't go for it. Tomorrow we're going to add some applesauce to it...after that we'll move on ; ) Sweet potatoes are a hit though (hint ; )

He's such a big boy sitting up in his bumbo, eating his big boy food! He'll be eating ham sandwiches in no time. :)
