After a brief break from rice cereal, we decided to give it another try. This time we elected to use Caleb's high chair instead of the Bumbo seat or Daddy's lap. Caleb managed to get a couple spoonfuls in before he kicked in to full on "enough is enough" mode (pictured below). We're going to keep trying since so far he doesn't totally hate rice cereal, contrary to what the picture indicates. :)

Caleb has also been staying busy during the day! He has turned into such a happy baby, playing with toys and talking and smiling a ton. Yesterday he started giggling for the first time. We have yet to capture it on video but will do our best so you can all see his adorableness!
Caleb has enjoyed playing with his Exersaucer although we have to kind of wedge him in there with a small boppy pillow since he's pretty tiny. He has figured out how to work some of the different buttons and noises. It's pretty funny to watch because he concentrates so hard and makes hilarious facial expressions.

Another favorite daily activity is the "Monkey Island" activity mat. Today Caleb spun himself 90 degrees so that all the toys were dangling down on his body instead of in front of him. I think it's important to mention that he spun around so he could see his Mommy & Daddy eating breakfast. :)
Being a baby is such hard work. Caleb has been taking two well-deserved naps each day. He normally naps in the morning and afternoon for around 2 hours. At night he has been sleeping for a total of 8-10 hours although he wakes up in the night to eat and have his diaper changed, sometimes up to 3 times! At this point we are feeding him whenever he's hungry, even if it's 3am because we need to put some meat on those bones!
The pedatrician's goal for him was to eat 30 ounces per day. He's been averaging at least 35 ounces per day since Saturday so we feel confident he should gain some weight soon! Tomorrow we go to the doctor for his flu shot so we'll get his weight checked then. Keep your fingers crossed for some weight gain!
A picture of our sleeping angel...

In non-adoption related news, we are celebrating our last day with our existing sliding glass door. The best word to describe it is GHETTO. We had been putting up with its crummy sliding mechanism, loud screeching and general ghetto fabulous functionality for several months now. Honestly, I think the door got over-worked since our dog and cat have the impression that it should function as a revolving door to allow them to go in and out constantly. When we got home with Caleb and I realized I could not open and close the door with one hand while holding him, we decided it was time to call our landlord to get it fixed. What was I going to do, go set Caleb down every time I needed to open the door so the dog could race outside to protect us from squirrels?? Tomorrow is the big day when we will say our big farewell to GHETTO DOOR and say hello to a brand new door. It's clearly the little things, folks. We're so excited!
Coming up soon in future posts: weight update tomorrow, a possible pumpkin patch trip and the debut of Caleb's Halloween costume!

Sweet Betsy - I cannot fully express the wonderful feeling that I get when I read about you and Bryan's wonderful times with Caleb. He is truly a match made in Heaven for you both. Hang in there and love every day with your beautiful baby boy.

I am so glad to hear Caleb is eating well. I am in New Braunfels this week taking a course on infant massage and I would love to share with you becuse one of the best things it does is help with the absorption of the food that he is eating. Hope to see you all soon!

Betsy,
He is just so beautiful! Looking at him just gets me all choked up. I cannot wait to see what he looks like with fluffy cheeks!
Hey girl!!Glad to see things are going well with Caleb!! Gives me hope that the sleep schedule will rectify itself soon. :-) He is so terribly cute, you know??? Ellie is struggling with cereal too -- three, maybe four small bites and she's angry and wants to quit. We've tried with various fruits, but no luck. We just keep pressing on. She needs to gain some weight. Her pants are falling off. :-)
