Granny's Birthday & Mother's Day in Houston

What a blessing to celebrate my second Mother's Day!  Unfortunately, Bryan was on a series of 5 consecutive night shifts over Mother's Day weekend, so I decided to go to Houston for the weekend to celebrate my Mom's birthday and Mother's Day.

On Friday evening after we got to town Caleb and I got to have a quick visit with Gran Jan and Pop Pop before they both went out of town to visit their moms in Ohio and Louisiana.   I totally forgot to take pictures! :(  Caleb enjoyed visiting the 'tick tock' grandfather clock at their house, having another piano lesson from Pop Pop, eating a yummy dinner while sitting in a kitchen chair like a big boy, playing with the new toys that Gran Jan bought and going on a walk in the wagon.  Caleb also spent some time sitting outside with Pop Pop by the pool and saw some bees buzzing around the vines near the cabana.  He is still talking about those bees!  It cracks me up how he recalls specific instances with each set of grandparents.

On Saturday we enjoyed relaxing time at Granny and Daddy Bob's house and celebrated Granny's birthday.  We had a yummy lunch at the Bake Shoppe and dinner at Lupe Tortilla.  Caleb had not spent the night at my parents house in quite some time since we have made fewer trips to Houston over the past year, so it was fun to see him get reacquainted with everything there.  He loved watching the lawn service company mow the yard with their 'mow car', watered the plants in the backyard, played with the spinning flower windmills, had multiple car races with the toy racetrack, or 'race cat' as he calls it, and loved practicing going up and down the stairs.

Caleb especially latched on to the fact that a light bulb was burned out in the breakfast room light fixture and talked about it repeatedly.  The other experience he is still talking about is his interaction with 'paper Bob Bob' which is a life-size cardboard cut out of my Dad from his retirement party.  Paper Bob Bob was spotted in the garage and fell down several times due to wind in the backyard.  Caleb is still talking about 'Bob Bob fell down, uh oh!'.  He just can't get over it.

Here are some pictures from our time on Saturday & Mom's birthday celebrations:

On Mother's Day Caleb treated me with an early morning wake up call and a dirty diaper --- luckily my sweet Dad came to the rescue after I changed the diaper and took Caleb downstairs to play.  I got to go back to bed until 9am!!  Caleb brought me flowers that he picked in the backyard and breakfast in bed, which he gladly helped me devour.  My parents helped Caleb to record a Mother's Day greeting in one of the recordable Hallmark cards.  He loved saying, "Momma Day!!" all day long with a huge grin on his face.  I got several presents from Caleb including some t-shirts that he thought I would like to wear around the house, like a Mickey Mouse shirt, Pooh shirt and Jesus shirt!  My parents also gave me some cute clothes for Mother's Day that I have really enjoyed wearing.  We enjoyed 2 great meals at home, including steaks on the grill cooked by Chef Bob Bob and went to Sunday evening Mass.

It was a wonderful Mother's Day weekend and could have only been better if my Bryan had been there with me to celebrate too.  I am grateful that I got to spend time with my parents to celebrate the special day and the wonderful blessing of being Caleb's Mommy.

We loved having you,Caleb, and Sophie here for birthday/Mother's Day weekend. It reminded me of the times (more than a year ago) when y'all would come here for your work week, and we would keep Caleb...except this time we got to spend lots of time with you, too! We missed Bryan. I hope he can come next time!
