Caleb Update

I wanted to document some of Caleb's latest antics so I can be sure to remember them years from now! Here are some of the things he has been doing lately:
  • Caleb has an incredible appetite and eats everything we put in front of him... except for peas. It is not unusual for him to eat almost an entire baked sweet potato, 1/2 an avocado, a slice of turkey, and a container of applesauce or yogurt for dinner.
  • Caleb's favorite foods are sweet potatoes, bread, bananas, avocado, scrambled eggs, and the YoBaby yogurt.
  • We are working on teaching Caleb how to not overstuff his mouth by using the 'delay' method - taking his plate of food away when he stuffs his mouth full. During the first few meals we were constantly removing the plate, but now after doing this for 2 days we have only had to take his plate away once each meal!
  • Caleb is getting better at drinking out of his sippy cup, but prefers for us to count, "1,2,3" before he'll take a sip and then loves it when we brag on him when he's done. :)
  • Right now Caleb still takes 3 bottles (morning, afternoon and bedtime) in addition to 3 meals of solid food per day. We are in the process of switching him to whole milk and he has tolerated it really well! We are up to 50% formula, 50% whole milk at this point.
  • Caleb tries to mimic lots of things we say, especially "Ready, Set, Go!" and counting. We have heard him 'pretend counting' on multiple occasions and he seems to say 3,6 and 7 the most.... "freeee", "six" and "sheven".
  • Caleb is also saying mama, dada, ball, down, sophie ("saaaw-eee" or "phie"), and car. He has tried to repeat other words on occasion, like truck, shoe, keys and choo-choo but he is not saying those consistently.
  • Caleb loves to play with Sophie - he will crawl 90 mph after her, throw a toy for her and giggle. He just loves her so much and we really enjoy watching them play!
  • Caleb is taking one nap per day after lunch for about 2 hours. He has learned to go to sleep without a bottle both for his nap and bedtime. We are grateful because now we have a chance to brush his 15 TEETH before he goes to sleep.
  • Yes, you read that right. The child has 15 teeth that have cut through the gum. Three of them are molars!
  • Caleb truly understands the concept of "down" - he loves to pick up his toys and yell "DOWN!" as they crash down on the hardwood floor. The echo is incredible in our house... and his first activity of every day is "Operation : Destroy the Playroom". (pictured below)
  • Caleb loves to practice "lights on"/ "lights off" and help us with the light switches
  • Caleb has mastered the concept of "in", like putting something in a basket or bucket. We are teaching him "on". He also can do the square and circle shapes in his shape sorter bucket!
  • Caleb loves our routine of going on walks in our neighborhood after dinner. It really seems to relax him before we come home and begin his bedtime routine.
  • Caleb loves to watch a show on PBS called "Super Why". He gets so pumped up each morning to watch it in his Pack N Play after breakfast while Mommy drinks her coffee!
  • Caleb also loves Elmo. He has also started to learn how to give kisses - although most of the time he prefers to kiss a stuffed animal or his blankie!
  • At the beginning of the month Caleb was 22 lbs and 31.5 inches long. At the rate he is eating there is no telling how much he weighs now! We are anxious to see how big he is when he goes in for his 15 month appointment in mid-July.
Doing some reading while we wait for the vet to come look at Sophie
